Welcome

Continental Mushroom is the largest family owned and operated mushroom farm in Canada. Founded in 1972 by Nicholas Pora, Continental Mushroom has become a leading supplier of fresh mushrooms throughout Ontario and Quebec. Currently we harvest 17 tons of mushrooms per day producing, white and brown button mushrooms and portabella mushrooms. We deliver fresh mushrooms to both retailers and wholesalers seven days per week by offering direct store and warehouse deliveries. All products are pre cooled by use of a vacuum cooler before shipping – all orders are then double checked and recorded for proper temperature before leaving the facility in our refrigerated trucks, so our customers enjoy the finest quality and freshness year round.

Mushrooms are a favourite food of Canadians, and at 2.8 kilograms Canadians enjoy one of the world's highest levels per capita of mushroom consumption. No wonder! Mushrooms taste great and are a good source of Vitamins, Minerals and Fibre. Mushrooms truly are "The Healthy Fast Food" please feel free to check out our delicious, nutritious mushrooms recipes.

Continental Mushroom is committed to food safety and product quality. This commitment is evident through the implementation of the BRC (British Retail Consortium) standards based food safety programs, in line with recognized Global Food Safety Initiatives. Quality systems are also an integral part of our management programs and are closely integrated with Food Safety programs. We continue to meet or exceed all hazard analysis and critical control points put forth by the (HACCP) systems as recommended by Mushroom Canada and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency with very strong focus on the seven key principals of HACCP. In total we are HACCP, GFSI, BRC, and Global Gap Certified.

Over the years we have put a lot of time and resources into developing and monitoring a very proactive health and safety committee. Training and re training is ongoing and very important to us. We are dedicated to the health and safety of our employees who enable us to provide outstanding products and services to our customers.

We are very proud to employ over 250 people from the National Capital region. We even supply scheduled transportation if required in our yellow and green "Mushroom Bus". We like to think of ourselves as a mini United Nations since we employ many ethnic groups. We are always on the lookout for hard – working, serious people to join our workforce. Most of our available jobs are usually in preparation and harvesting crews, however at times we are also looking for people in our packing/ shipping area and drivers. All are general labor positions, and training is provided on site.

Continental Mushroom is also very well known for supplying the National Capital region businesses and homes with the spent compost that the mushrooms grow in for their Lawns and Gardens. Each year the word is spreading that the compost is available commercially and we are now seeing more new customers every year.
